Clayton C. Cannon

With over 30 years of experience in construction law in Houston, Texas with both a local and regional law firm, Clayton formed the Cannon Law Firm PLLC in 2016, focusing on construction arbitration and mediation.

Clayton has an extensive experience in a variety of construction issues, including foundations, roofing, HVAC systems, windows, exterior siding systems, drainage, site preparations and building compliance. He is also seasoned in delays claims as well as construction payment, lien and bond claims.

He earned his B.A in Accounting from Texas A&M University in 1988 and his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center in 1991.

Clayton currently serves as a council member of the State Board of Texas Construction Law Section.

Experienced counsel is a must to ensure that the construction agreements for any project are clearly documented. It is also important to consider how each of the contracts in place in a construction project related to one another.


Clayton regularly serves as an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association in construction matters, commercial disputes, and labor and employment issues. Clayton is regularly appointed to serve on AAA Large Complex Case panels and as a sole arbitrator on AAA Regular Construction Industry matters.

Additionally, Clayton is often asked by his peers to serve as mediator in a wide array of construction matters. Clayton has vast experience with many construction industry disputes, such as defect and design claims, lien and bond claims, delay claims, acceleration and inefficiency claims, and surety tenders and takeovers.
